More Craigslist Scams

It looks like Craigslist is in the media again. Craigslist does not have the ability to approve/disapprove ads before they are published. And because there is no cost associated with placing an ad on Craigslist, they susceptible to scam ads.
Although, most of the media attention is on out-call (prostitution) services and Work From Home scams, I have been seeing a lot of other phishing scams such as the one below. This one runs employment related ads. When the user clicks on the ad, it takes them to a web page that simply displays a bunch of Google Ads. If the user then clicks on one of the Google ads, the original advertiser makes money.

Even Zappos.com is laying off

What is going on out there??? Gaming has been dropping employees by the hundreds, and in some cases…thousands. Today it was announced that our local poster-child company, Zappos.com, is laying off 8 percent of its’ workforce.
More Las Vegas jobs have been lost this year, than have been created.
Zappos, which was founded by my buddy Nick Swinmurn, has been leading the non-gaming industries in Las Vegas job creation for the past few years. Zappos was recruited to Henderson a few years back, starting with less than 50 employees. Today, with nearly $1.0 Billion in sales, they have 1,300 employees.
National Job Market Bleak….very bleak

Two national employment reports were delivered today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics report for October and the SHRM LINE (Leading Indicators for National Employment). Here are the basics of each report:
- National unemployment rises from 6.1 to 6.5 percent
- Employment has fallen 1.2 million in the first 10 months of 2008
- Half of the decline was from last 3 months
- Unemployment increased by 603,000
- Job expectations for November are bleak
- Hiring freezes, job cuts result in fewer job vacancies
- Wages and benefits packages are flattening
