Well, this started out as my “10 Predictions for 2008.” However, I got too busy to publish it in a timely manner. And much of what I was predicting has already surfaced. So I tweaked it a little to be a “Top 10 issues facing Nevada” ….yet a few are still predictions:-)
- Overall unemployment levels in Nevada will continue to rise until the opening of City Center.
- The economic slowdown will impact gaming employment and layoffs may occur.
- The construction industry will (again) face a talent shortage by Summer 2008.
- State budget cuts will ripple into education and further impact our ability to ‘grow our own.’
- CCSD will blame the budget cuts for their recruiting woes and use the ‘early retirement’ issue as a retention tool.
- Gaming competitors will begin to collaborate to combat the foreseen War for Talent and implement a regional recruiting effort.
- Employers will begin to ask why an Applicant Tracking System doesn’t track ‘the source’ of the applicant.
- Employers will hold job boards more accountable for ROI and measurement.
- Niche and regional job boards will become mainstream and heavily used.
- A major privacy issue will arise from Job Boards selling resume database access.
- Several job fairs will leave the market because of over saturation and the impact of rising unemployment levels.
- The “Trailing Spouse” program will be recognized as a best practice for all employers in all industries.
Ok - and Doug needs to learn how to count (or limit top 10 lists to 10).
