The 50+ Worker

As you know, yesterday we hosted the Opportunity Boulevard Spring Job Fair.  We added a new partner to the mix - AARP.  We did this to attract the 50+ worker to the event.

All in all the event was a huge success.  Hundreds of AARP members came to the event and many were able to find gainful & meaningful employment right on the spot.  Companies such as IDC and Manpower of Southern Nevada embraced this demographic and understood the value they bring to the table.

Of course some of the employers were set back a little by the older worker as they either did not have part-time jobs to offer or have not yet determined how to make the best business case for working with the older worker.

With Las Vegas being the third largest retirement (and pre-retirement) destination in the United States and having one of the lowest unemployment levels, we need to understand how to best work with this demographic.

Recruiting Nevada’s commitment is to begin offering more white papers and case studies to educate the employers on how to best embrace this rapidly growing demographic.  The more we fear the baby-boomer generation, the more negative impact we will feel.  The sooner we embrace it, the more likely we are to succeed at the war for talent.
