Let’s embrace the older worker

It is a known fact that 40% of the workforce will retire in the next 15 years.

The fact of the matter is we have a labor shortage in Las Vegas today that we must face, regardless of the baby-boomer effect.

The other fact is Las Vegas is the second or third most popular retirement destination in the United States.  Many professionals “pre-retire” to Las Vegas so they can get situated in their new home and make the most of all the amenities that Las Vegas offers.

This large demographic has key skills almost every employer needs.  Rather than fear the demo - we need to embrace it.  We need to make the older worker part of our overall recruiting strategy.  They bring exceptional skills and an even more desired work ethic.

So how do you appeal to the older worker?  The best way is to be recognized by an established organization such as AARP for being older-worker friendly.  Back in November we announced open nominations for AARP’s “Best Employer for Workers Over 50″ awards.  Today we are just 30 days away from the nomination deadline.

Do your company a favor and nominate it today.

The benefits are awesome and extend beyond recruiting - even into consumer based recognition:

Deadline for entries is February 22, 2007
