Quality over Quantity

Bigger is not always better. Especially with job fairs.
We will be hosting our Opportunity Boulevard Winter Job Fair at the South Point Casino today. Our promise to our exhibitors is that we will attract the “best” jobseekers - not the most. Our competitor job fairs seem to think that it is a numbers game and that the quantity of attendees is what sets them apart from the others.
I disagree.
As a recruiter, I would rather spend more quality time with a better qualified audience than have to sort thru hundreds of unqualified applicants to try and find just one “A” candidate. Give me 50 candidates that have been pre-screened to match my needs and I will be much happier than having to screen 500.
Many times the homeless person going trick-or-treating, booth to booth, distracts me from my recruiting efforts. Trying to get the opportunity to speak to the woman who is wearing the suit, that unfortunately is behind the 20 jobseekers who felt that it was appropriate to come to a job fair in shorts and flip flops, is my biggest challenge for the day. I find it particularly disturbing when the number of baby strollers in the crowd outnumber the number of suits.
Our event today will raise the bar. “Opportunity Boulevard” will be known as the “best” job fair in town. Not the largest.
And at the end of the day, our exhibitors will go home with hires. Not just resumes.
So….Just Say No to “trick-or-treaters.”
