Winning….for Nevada

I was invited to participate in a Nevada Business Journal round-table discussion exclusive to young entrepreneurs. It is a great feeling to be surrounded by young successful business owners who share many of the same traits.
One question that was asked was what makes us do it. What is the driving factor behind being an entrepreneur? In this answer there was a lot of diversity, ranging from flexible schedule to challenge and fear to money.
When it came to me, my answer was simple - winning. I have always liked to win, but I feel that I am winning a war for Nevada. A war for talent.
Nevada has many organizations that fight the war for it each and every day.
The Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority and Reno-Sparks Visitors and Convention Authority constantly fight (and win) the war of getting more tourists to visit our great state and keep the economic engine of gaming running.
The Nevada Development Authority, Northern Nevada Development Authority, eDawn and other economic development authorities in the state fight (and win) the war on diversification and bringing new businesses to the State.
But who fights the war for talent? Each employer has been expected to do this themselves for many years and there has never been a central authority for this.
Well, Recruiting Nevada has assumed that role. We are committed to attracting the human capital necessary to keep both the tourism and economic development engines running by supplying the companies that serve those audiences the necessary human capital to succeed in their wars.
So far…we are winning the war.
